Europass initiative

Creating a common European education and employment area and bringing education institutions closer to the needs of employers are the key objectives that formed the Europass initiative. Driven by the aim to help individuals to efficiently and comprehensively present their knowledge, skills and competences, and to provide an easier overview of applicants for employers, the Decision on a single Community framework for the transparency of qualifications and competences – Europass was adopted at European level.

It introduces a set of documents providing a transparent record of knowledge, skills and experiences acquired during the education, different work experiences or in everyday life. The user can fill in some documents by himself, while others are issued by competent institutions.  The implementation of all activities relating to the Europass initiative in Slovenia is coordinated by National Europass Center.

The Europass documents can be obtained and used in 32 European countries which participate in the initiative. All the documents have the same standardised form, and the same logo. It is possible to store them in both paper and electronic form which allows easier communication with potential employer.

The Europass consists of the following documents:

  • Europass CV – a standardised CV format for producing a well structured and comprehensive CV; a  support which will help you to attract the attention of the employer or institution where you would like to get work or gain interesting learning experiences.
  • Europass Language Passport – a format which allows to record and present your language skills on the basis of a standardised system of six proficiency levels.
  • Europass Mobility  – a record of an organised work or training experience spent in another European country.
  • Europass Diploma Supplement  – accompanies a higher education diploma and summarizes in at least one of the European languages knowledge, skills and qualifications acquired during the study period.
  • Europass Certificate Supplement    – accompanies a vocational education and training certificate and summarizes (in at least one of the European languages) knowledge, skills and qualifications acquired during the VET schooling.

The Europass portfolio brings important benefits to every user:

  • by giving a possibility to use a set of documents which are understood and recognized all over Europe;
  • by providing a clear and comprehensive overview of formal and informal knowledge;
  • by promoting the record of all types of knowledge  and skills;
  • by facilitating communication between employment seeker and employer, as well as between individual and education institution;
  • by promoting international exchanges of pupils, students, young workers and employees, as well as foreign language learning;
